Matthias Corvinus
Matthias Corvinus, or Mátyás Hunyadi, (1443-1490) was a King of Hungary. During his kingdom, he attempted to reconstruct the Hungarian state after decades of feudal anarchy, chiefly by means of financial, military, judiciary, and administrative reforms.
Because of his remarkable qualities as a soldier, ruler, legislator, scholar, and patron of the arts, he became one of the most interesting figures of the European Renaissance. His court attracted many humanists and artists to Buda and cultural relations with Italy became very lively, especially after Matthias’ marriage to Beatrice, daughter of Ferdinand of Aragon, king of Naples.
