Tadeušas Konvickis

Tadeušas Konvickis was a Polish writer, screenwriter, and film director born in Nowa Wilejka in 1926. He took inspiration for his masterpieces from his partisan experiences and his passion for the political and social issues of his country. To mention a few; Przy budowie “During the Construction” (1950), Wlada “The power” (1954) Dziura w niebe “A hole in the sky” (1959), and several others. During his adolescence, he joined the Polish resistance movement and fought against the Nazi army and afterward, against the Soviets. He admitted that the war represented a traumatic experience for him.

Firstly known as a writer, Konwickis started his career as a filmmaker and scriptwriter in 1956. He won the Venice Film Festival in 1958.

Konowicki’s work is characterized by anxiety and guilt, emotions traceable back to his wartime experiences. He died on January 7, 2015.
