Wanda Rutkiewicz was born on February 4, 1943, in Plungé (Western Lithuania), and supposedly died in 1992.
Wanda Rutkiewicz was a climber and computer engineer. She was the first woman to reach the summit of K2 and the third woman to summit Mount Everest. After World War II, in 1946, Wanda and her family moved to Wrocław.
She wanted to show that, especially within the world of climbing, women were stronger and capable as well as men.
While climbing Kangchenjunga, Wanda Rutkiewicz was last seen by Carlos Carsolio, a Mexican climber. Her body has still not been found.
